Terms & Conditions

THE JOANNE SIMMONS ACADEMY OF DANCE TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Ballet/Dance Examinations - the Principal will enter pupils for examinations only at her discretion.  Pupils are expected to attend extra examination classes in the lead up to the examination.  Pupils attending multiple classes will be offered a discount.

Fees - Class fees are due on or before the first class of each term - or half termly on the first class of each half term if you choose to pay half termly.  The school offers a Sibling discount of 10% on fees. Fees are non-refundable and in the event of the dance teacher cancelling a class, pupils will normally be offered an extra class at either their normal venue or another venue.  In the event of severe weather conditions and it is considered unsafe to travel to the venue, pupils will be offered an extra class at a later date either at their normal venue or another venue. Please ensure that you supply the school with all your contact details so that you can be contacted at all times.

Withdrawal of a pupil from the Academy - If a pupil wishes to withdraw from the school, please put this in writing either by letter, or email, to the Principal.  Half a term's notice is required - and failure to do this will result in the half term's fees being charged.

Uniform - Uniform must be worn by all pupils once purchased.  Hair must be neat and tidy - either in a bun or tied back off the face if the hair is below the jawline - ballet headbands are permitted providing they match the uniform.  No jewellery is permitted.  No chewing gum is permitted.  Please ensure that uniform is labelled with your child's name.  The school cannot be responsible for lost items.  Uniform will be available to be purchased through the school supplier for your convenience.  Children should use the changing facilities to change and be dressed ready for their class prior to entering the dance studio.

Physical contact and dance training - As dance training is a physical activity, it is sometimes necessary for the teacher to place pupils into the correct position by physical contact.  This enables the pupil to 'feel' the correct placement and thus, avoid potential injury.

Safety - Please collect your children from their class promptly.  If you are going to be late, please inform the teacher by 'phone - or in writing/email  if you know in advance that you are going to be delayed. Children are not, in any circumstances, allowed to wait outside of the dance studio, in the changing area, toilets or car parks.  If a parent is late, the child should wait in the studio with the teacher until their parent/guardian arrives. Please advise your children of this procedure in advance. Please ensure that you are able to get your child to class on time, if they are late it may result in them missing the 'warm up' at the start of the class and the risk of potential injury.  Please be extra careful when arriving/leaving at each venue in bad weather.  Please ensure that your child visits the toilet prior to their class as children are not permitted to go to the toilet alone once they have started their class and will need to be escorted.

Health - Please ensure that your child is fit and well enough to attend dance class.  Children who have, or recently had infections, particularly the gastro-enteritis type illnesses, should not attend dance class until they are completely well and clear of symptoms. This also helps to prevent the spread of viruses.  Children should bring plenty to drink with them so as to avoid dehydration - particularly when the weather is warm.  All pupils should warm up before their class.

Behaviour - Children are asked to wait outside the studio until the teacher is ready for their class.  Please let the previous class pupils out of the studio before entering - particularly if it is a class of very young children.  Please keep noise levels down and behave appropriately in the dressing/changing and toilet areas.  Some dance venues are shared by other groups so please be respectful of this at all times. Any pupil who is disruptive in either class, or the waiting areas, may be asked to leave the school.

Watching classes - Parents are not permitted to watch their child's class.  All parents and relatives will be invited to a special end of term presentation class at the last class of every term.  If you are away for the presentation class please inform the teacher and it may be possible to watch a class prior to the end of term.  Parents of very young children, Pre School age for e.g, may sit in on their child's class until the child has settled in and is happy to remain with their teacher - normally this takes just a week or two.

Photography/videos - There may be some occasions when the children may be photographed/videoed during show performances/classes for publicity reasons. Prior to any special dance performances the children will have an opportunity to be photographed in their costumes by a professional photographer arranged by the school. Parents are permitted to take photos and videos of their children at the end of term class providing no other parents object to this.

If you do not wish your child/children to be photographed/videoed please advise the school of this and sign appropriately at the bottom of this form.

Please be reassured that your child is getting the very best dance education and training by choosing a Royal Academy of Dance trained teacher.  All teachers of the Royal Academy of Dance practice under the Academy's Codes of Conduct for professional dance teachers and are CRB checked (enhanced).

Ballet is great fun for children and helps them gain confidence both mentally and physically whilst meeting new friends.

If you have any question regarding your child's dance training please either telephone or email the Principal.
